The Port is removing failing paint from six Digester Tanks on Bellingham’s downtown waterfront to preserve them as historic icons. Despite controls put into place to contain the lead-based paint, some waste paint chips were found on the lawns next to the tanks.
The Port has started a project to remove and replace the lawns next to the Digester Tanks to ensure full removal of all waste lead-based paint. The Port anticipates the new lawns will ready for use by June 1st, and appreciate everyone’s patience as we safely prepare our waterfront for the summer season.
